Check In
The ZeroTransform team attended Oculus Connect 3 on October 5th, 6th, and 7th this year. Justin Moravetz, Jeffrey Hawthorne, and myself (Heather Peterson) packed up and traveled from Bend, Oregon to San Jose, California. Overall, we were looking forward to the Opening Keynote (scheduled for Day 2), lectures, demos, and meeting more developers. We arrived early at the convention center on the opening day for check in, chatted with fellow developers, and checked out our swag bags.

John Carmack Reviews Vanguard V
The first thing on our list was the John Carmack App Review. Justin quickly got in line to have him review Vanguard V, level 2. Hearing him review our game was a exhilarating experience. The feedback was both informative and constructive, helping us fine tune the rest of the level. As a team, we were overcome with pride when he said “the visuals are beautiful”. Those words were followed by a high five from Jeffrey and I in the audience.

Afterwards, we spent the rest of the afternoon in multiple lectures and talks on different aspects of virtual reality.
Women in VR Event
That night, I crashed the Women in Tech cocktail party. Being my first VR convention, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I walked in to the a Hilton event center that had been converted to a modern nightlife lounge. I was fountunate enough to meet techies like Margarita Benitez from Mode++, Erica Laten from Shift, Pooja Pasawala from the Huffington Post, Aliah Darke from the UCLA Game Lab, and Sadah Espii Proctor from the Oculus Accelerator Group.

We made it back to the hotel late that evening, speculating about the following day’s Keynote speech. Stay tuned for the recap of Day 2 at Oculus Connect 3. The post will be up tomorrow morning!
